Kal Chaudwin Ki Raat Thi -Cover by N V Krishnan

I remember my days in Bhandup, Mumbai, where I was living as a paying guest during my bachelor days. I had a small tape recorder which used to play non stop Jagjit Singh ji's Ghazals....so much that once my house-owner, in whose flat I was staying came and asked me..

"If at all you want to play music so loudly why cant you play some good filmi songs? Why these ghazals which none of us enjoy?"

One of the ghazals I used to play then was "Kal chaudwin Ki raat thi" . Here I have tried to sing it in my own style - means I have made some improvisations in certain harkatein.

In addition to the version of Jagjit ji, there is another version sung by Ghulam Ai Saheb also of this great ghazal written by Ibne-e-Insha.

Please listen to this and give your feedback...

Very nice singing Sir and your voice is very suited to ghazals. You did really well on the lower notes "kunche ko tere..". I hope to hear some of Hariharan ji's ghazals also soon from you :). The only thing which could be improved is probably pronounciation of some of the urdu words (very minor).

Aap ki awaaz bahot pasand aayee. Your comfort level is showing.
Ibn-e-Insha ki shayaree utnee pasand nahin aayee. Who is he addressing? His mashooqah ya Almighty?
If it is the first one, then...how can be "jungle tere" etc. etc...
I am not too thrilled when Urdu ghazal mein zabardasti Hindi ko istemaal kiya jaata hai...it is just my humble opinion.
कूचे को तेरे छोड़कर
जोगी ही बन जाएं मगर
जंगल तेरे पर्वत तेरे
बस्ती तेरी सेहरा तेरा, कल ...

Bahut Khoob! Suits your voice so much. Liked your own variation and this ghazal brought me back many withered memories of my college years.
Very Nice!

NVK sahab,

Bohat shaandaar! You have sung this ghazal very well. The best part is everytime I hear this ghazal, it invokes new sentiments in me.

And this is not a "soofiyana" kalaam. It is purely a love poem.

To expand on Paras's query, the poet is trying to say that every place where there is moonlight, reminds me of my beloved, jungle, sahra, etc.

Krishnan sir ...Again putting down the same thoughts ...running out of words complementing your singing ..your voice is so soothing and the greates thing in all your renditions is the way you capture the mood of the song besides singing your heart out !!
